When I was a kid my parents made me take tennis lessons every summer.  Frankly, I hated it.  Don’t get me wrong, I always enjoyed the game but I had group lessons with a teacher who was very impatient.  He wasn’t supportive and even the slightest imperfection wasn’t tolerated.  It just wasn’t fun and to this day I still won’t pick up a racquet.

The Boston tech community with raise funds for One Fund with an event at the Hooley House.

CoachUp has partnered with TUGG (Technology Underwriting Greater Good) and several members of the Boston tech community to honor and support the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.  A fundraiser will be held on Sunday evening, April 21st at the Hooley House located above Hennesey’s on 25 Union Street in Boston.

Doors will open at 7:30 PM and all members of the Boston community are encouraged to attend.  There will be a suggested $10 donation at the door which will be provided to One Fund Boston, the official relief fund established by Mayor Menino and Governor Deval Patrick to help the people affected by the Boston Marathon bombing tragedy.

Scott Brown brought his A-game to CoachUp’s recent 3 on 3 #RaisetheRim Tournament

CoachUp announced this week that former Senator Scott Brown and Boston Bruins President Cam Neely have joined its Advisory Board and Board of Directors, respectively.

Brown personally benefitted from the mentorship of a private coach to realize his potential on and off the court.  “From an early age, the coaches I met through basketball forever changed the direction of my life and allowed me to overcome a challenging childhood,” Brown said in a statement. “I will never forget the mentors who pushed me and helped me realize my potential. I’m excited to join CoachUp and hope to apply the lessons from my personal story with basketball and help others truly maximize the coaching experience.”

With venues across the country preparing for the madness of March, Basketball City in Boston is preparing for its own madness. With Raise the Rim a mere eleven days away (3/28), teams around the city are preparing to once again compete for the ultimate crown at the second annual Raise the Rim 3-on-3 tournament. The hardwood should be rocking even more at this year’s event, which will be held at a larger venue with a significant increase in teams compared to last year. All net proceeds from Raise the Rim will go to TUGG, a non-profit dedicated to catalyzing and spreading social entrepreneurship in New England.

Because I was a tall kid who loved sports everyone always assumed I’d be a natural at basketball. And, although I did make my high school freshman team, I was really just an average player who really wasn’t going anywhere.  Then a director at a summer camp suggested I work with private coach.  But it turned out to be a long struggle to find someone good who could help me at my precise level.  Nevertheless, after a frustrating period of discouraging false starts, I finally found my coach.
